What Kind of Quarry?

The ancient Hawaiians quarried a variety of materials for their needs. Most well known are the basalt quarries where extremely dense lava rock was extracted to make long-lasting adzes for cutting and carving. In this photo, however, we see a much lesser known type: a glass quarry.
