At the eastern edge of the heiau platform is a healthy "ti" or "ki" plant. This is a sacred plant in Hawaii and it represents spiritual protection and inspiration. It is very common to find it around heiau sites, and in modern times Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians alike may have it planted around their homes and businesses for spiritual reasons. Some people still recommend wearing a ti-leaf lei when entering a sacred site, either made from a single split leaf or from several leaves braided together.
