Serge's body rebelled at the top of the finger ridge, so Thierry and Dion pressed onward. Thierry soon returned, however, when the next slope proved even steeper. Undaunted, Dion climbed that one to the top of the ridgeline and found himself on a narrow ridge barely two feet wide with a vertical drop-off on the far side to the gorge where Kapakaiki Falls emptied into pools and smaller falls down to Keahua Stream. This photo shows Dion taking a "safe" route across the slightly less steep near side of the ridge.
