Most visitors and many locals do not even realize that Diamond Head is a volcanic crater and that it is possible to go inside it. The area inside is 175 acres and there is an easy hiking trail about a half mile long that starts on the crater floor and rises to the 760 foot summit.
To find the entrance, follow Monsarrat Avenue from the Honolulu Zoo until it becomes Diamond Head Road and continue past the Kapiolani Community College. Take the next right into the crater.
