Liquid lava has many of the same characteristics as water. Lighter, porous rocks floats on top and denser, harder rocks tumble along the bottom of a lava flow. And when the flow meets a sudden change in level you have a lavafall, as shown in this photo. There are also signs of eddies, currents, and erosion.
